How to Get There
Pokhara is a 25-minute flight or 6-7 hour drive from Kathmandu. All trailheads are 20-90 minutes from Lakeside by taxi or local bus.
Permit Information
No permits for Sarangkot, World Peace Pagoda, Pumdikot, or Panchase. Trails entering the Annapurna Conservation Area (Australian Camp, Dhampus) require ACAP permit and TIMS card.
Pokhara, Nepal's second city, sits at 800m on the shores of Phewa Lake with the Annapurna range rising dramatically to the north. The surrounding hills offer some of Nepal's easiest and most rewarding short hikes, with the Annapurna massif and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) as a constant backdrop.
Sarangkot (1,592m) is the most famous sunrise viewpoint, offering a sweeping panorama of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. The World Peace Pagoda across Phewa Lake combines a scenic boat ride with a forest hike. Australian Camp and Dhampus serve as gateways to the Annapurna region. Panchase Hill (2,517m) offers the widest panorama with Nepal's densest rhododendron forest.
Pokhara is also Nepal's paragliding capital, and several of these viewpoints double as launch sites. The lakeside tourist district provides excellent accommodation, restaurants, and trekking gear shops.
