The Manaslu region in Gorkha district centers on Manaslu (8,163m), the world's eighth highest peak. The Manaslu Circuit has emerged as one of Nepal's premier treks, often called the 'new Annapurna Circuit' for its similar diversity of landscape and culture but with a fraction of the trekkers.
As a restricted area, the Manaslu Circuit requires a licensed trekking agency, a guide, and a minimum group of two — regulations that keep visitor numbers manageable and preserve the region's wild character. The trail follows the Budhi Gandaki gorge through incredibly diverse terrain, from subtropical lowlands to high alpine landscapes, crossing the dramatic Larkya La pass at 5,160m.
The upper valley is strongly Tibetan in character, with ancient monasteries, mani walls, and prayer flags. The region is also the gateway to the sacred Tsum Valley, a hidden beyul opened to trekkers only in 2008.
